A Hidden Gem

Why is it that movies like THE HANGOVER III and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4 get more attention than the movie I'm about to review-THE BIG MIRACLE?
  Maybe because it looks like another whale movie. Do we need another whale movie? Maybe it doesn't have the biggest stars in the movie, or maybe it just didn't appeal to moviegoers. This gem snuck past me while in theaters and on DVD because, to me, it looked like another cutesy whale movie.
  So, last night, bored and looking for something to watch on TV, I came across this surprisingly good movie based on true events that happened back in 1988.
  I don't even remember this story making the news back then, probably because I was a punk teenager, rapped up in my own world.
 Nevertheless, THE BIG MIRACLE is a surprisingly good movie that features recognizable faces. I stop short of saying an All Star Cast, for the fact that Ted Danson and Drew Barrymore don't make me run out to the theater to see their films. Maybe this is another reason moviegoers skipped it in the theaters. Without giving you the plot, which I never do-watch the movie-I will say that this is THE SOCIAL NETWORK meets FREE WILLY, and that's a good thing. A very good thing.
  You can catch this on HBO or or on DVD right now. Check it out. You might be surprised like me.

   Movies like DADDY'S HOME 2 are made for two things- to entertain and to make people laugh. That is exactly what this sequel to the hit DADDY'S HOME succeeds in doing. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg return as Brad and Dusty, co-dad's to Sara's(Linda Cardellini) two children, as well as much of the original cast. To recap the first one, Brad (Ferrell) is the step-dad to Sara's(Cardellini) two children who finds himself competing with the real Dad, Dusty(Walhberg) for the title of Dad.   With DADDY's HOME 2, we get the Grandfathers added to the mix. Mel Gibson as Dusty's Dad, Kurt and John Lithgow as Brad's Dad, Don. Gibson is stunt casting while Lithgow's performance is indicative of his award-winning career. Lithgow plays a comedic role in dramatic fashion. It could be the other way around as well. Movie Review-DESPICABLE ME DESPICABLE ME is about a villain named Gru (voiced by Steve Carell ), who sets out to steal the moon. You might ask why he would do this. Basically for the attention from his verbally abusive mother,the world and competition from a rival villain named Vector. When Gru sees three orphan girls selling Girl Scout cookies to Vector, he devises a plan to use the girls to get closer to Vector. (Yes, I'm leaving out plot details. I'm not one to give every single detail of the movie.) Movie Review: DARKEST HOUR

      DARKEST HOUR is a film that transports the viewer to another time and place in extraordinary fashion, combining some very talented artists of filmmaking to create something unique and enthralling for today's moviegoer.    Gary Oldman gives the performance of his career as Winston  Churchill, a man who led his country out of one of it's darkest times with his wisdom and courage, never backing down from a difficult challenge. Oldman disappears into the role of Churchill, convincing the viewer that he or she is watching a historic figure come to life. Oldman's performance, Joe Wright's direction, the production design by Sarah Greenwood and the makeup by Kazuhino Tsuji, David Malinowski, and  Lucy Sibbick's combined talents transport the viewer to 1940's England to view history in the making.
