Movie Review: DADDY'S HOME 2

With DADDY's HOME 2, we get the Grandfathers added to the mix. Mel Gibson as Dusty's Dad, Kurt and John Lithgow as Brad's Dad, Don. Gibson is stunt casting while Lithgow's performance is indicative of his award-winning career. Lithgow plays a comedic role in dramatic fashion. It could be the other way around as well. One of the things had a problem with in this movie is Gibson's performance, which I found to be a lackluster performance. It as if Gibson is just collecting a paycheck here. He comes off in every scene that he's in like he doesn't want to be there. And that really is a disappointment. Over the years, Gibson has always displayed a flair for the comedic in his performances, but here, he has never been more uninspired and lazy than he is in this movie.
Back to the plot description for the second one. The kids want a Christmas that is split up between the two Dads. So Grandpa Kurt(Gibson) suggests that they whole family-both families go off to a beautiful Cabin in the woods to spend their Christmas. The rest of the movie is a repeat of the first one, but with a little more entertainment value thrown in for this one. At least that's how I found the movie to be.
DADDY'S HOME 2 is basically more of the same of the first movie. Surprisingly, I found this sequel to play somewhat better than the original. Everyone, with the exception of Gibson, really seems to be doing their best to bring a sequel that is as entertaining and somewhat funnier than the original. I give DADDY'S HOME 2 a B-.
