Movie Review: JUMANJI-WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is the sequel/reboot to the 1995 film starring Robin Williams. The story picks one year later from the original film, where a man finds the mysterious board game on a beach and brings it back home to his teenager son who is obsessed with playing video games. That is pretty much every teenage boy. The boy discards the game in favor of his video game console. While the boy sleeps, the board game magically transforms itself into a video game cartridge. See the film. It makes more sense than my description. Trust me. Long story short, the boy disappears, never to be seen again. Twenty years later 4 teenagers are sent to high school detention and find the discarded video game console, complete with the Jumanji video game. Before they know it, the four teenagers are whisked into the video game and become characters of the video game. My description of the premise sounds outlandish, but thankfully this works surprisingly well.
The second installment works due to the four stars assembled to take over the comedic reigns from the sorely missed Robin Williams. Those four stars are Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan(The Guardians of The Galaxy movies) and Jack Black in a hilarious performance. I'm leaving out a couple of details here. It's better if you see the film for yourself and watch the surprises unfold. The four stars work very well together, making this the top reason that I am recommending the film. It also happens to be quite funny and has some very entertaining action sequences.
A flaw the film has are a few sagging scenes that I like to call bathroom break scenes. There's a lack of story in some scenes, often calling on the actors to do their best to prop up the weak scenes in question. Fortunately, these scenes I am referring to do not weaken the pace too much. Before you know it, the film jumps back into the comedy and action.
I say that if you are looking for a good movie that has action and laughs, then JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE might be what you are looking for. For parents wondering if this kid-friendly, I would say it's more for the middle schoolers and up. The content on display here might be a little over the heads of the really young children.
I give JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE a B.
